Filament Games is seeking a full-time 2D Game Artist to collaborate with our closely knit team of game development professionals on a long line of learning games covering every age, topic, and visual style. This position might be for you if you like to draw:

  • Dinosaurs
  • Indie garage band costumes
  • Children's movie / book characters
  • Whimsical plants and alien creatures

We are looking for someone who can do more of what you see there, and at the same time move us forward creatively and aesthetically. When applying include a cover letter, a resume, and a visual portfolio (preferably web-based) showcasing your very best work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a small team of artists to establish new art styles when necessary, and match existing styles when required.
  • Work with designer and client to develop and iterate on concept art for characters, props, and environments.
  • Draw and color game-ready assets. This may include drawing for others to paint and/or painting over other's drawings.
  • Format and deliver game-ready assets according to design specs, technical requirements, and best practices.
  • Maintain style consistency throughout the game.
  • Create cut-out and traditional  character animations.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3 years professional experience making games
  • 5 years creating  professional art
  • World-class visual portfolio
  • Degree or certificate in art, digital art, or a related discipline, or comparable experience
  • A bright, colorful, engaging aesthetic
  • Demonstrated ability to create animations that are natural yet playfully exaggerated
  • Strong grasp of color, form, composition, and motion
  • Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of designers, artists, and engineers
  • Experience establishing and maintaining compelling visual styles
  • Experience working in established art styles and matching styles with existing art as needed
  • Exceptional digital painting skills
  • Some exposure to 3D art

Bonus Points

  • 3D character art experience: modeling, rigging, animating, texturing
  • Experience with Unity: Animator, Anima 2D, texture importer
  • Familiarity with Agile/SCRUM development methodology
  • Familiarity with classic and current games
  • Experience in children's media
